CBSE Class 8 Subject-Wise Syllabus (2025-26)

1. Mathematics (Code: 041) 

The syllabus emphasizes logical thinking and real-world problem solving across 7 major units. 

• Number System (20 Marks): Rational numbers, squares/square roots, cubes/cube roots, and exponents.

• Algebra (25 Marks): Linear equations in one variable, algebraic expressions, and factorisation.

• Ratio and Proportion (15 Marks): Comparing quantities, direct and inverse proportions.

• Geometry (20 Marks): Understanding quadrilaterals, practical geometry, and solid shapes.

• Mensuration (20 Marks): Area of polygons and surface area/volume of cubes, cuboids, and cylinders.

• Data Handling: Interpretation of bar graphs, pie charts, and basic probability. 

2. Science (Code: 086) – New Book: Curiosity 

The updated syllabus contains 13 chapters integrated into Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. 

• Biology: Cell structure, health and disease prevention, microorganisms, and ecosystem balance.

• Chemistry: Particulate nature of matter, elements, compounds, mixtures, and the world of solutions.

• Physics: Forces and pressure, friction, sound, electricity (magnetic/heating effects), and light (mirrors/lenses).

• Earth Science: Natural phenomena like lightning/cyclones and astronomical phenomena. 

3. Social Science (Code: 087)

The subject is now streamlined into a single comprehensive theme, covering History, Geography, and Civics. 

• History (Our Pasts - III): Colonialism, the revolt of 1857, and the making of the National Movement (1870s-1947).

• Geography (Resource & Development): Land, soil, water resources, agriculture, industries, and human resources.

• Civics (Social & Political Life): The Indian Constitution, parliamentary government, and social justice for the marginalised. 

4. English – New Book: Poorvi 

The curriculum aims to enhance communication through five thematic units. 

• Literature: Themes include "Wit and Wisdom," "Environment" (The Cherry Tree), and "Science and Curiosity".

• Reading & Writing: Unseen passages, story writing, diary entries, and formal/informal letters.

• Grammar: Tenses, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, and sentence structure. 

5. Hindi (Vasant / Durva)

• Literature: Prescribed texts like Vasant include stories such as "Lakh Ki Chudiyan" and "Bus Ki Yatra".

• Language Skills: Focus on grammar (noun, pronoun, tenses), vocabulary building, and creative writing (essays and letters). 

Internal Assessment (20 Marks)

Like Class 9, the evaluation follows a continuous pattern: 

• Periodic Tests: Regular assessments to track academic growth.

• Subject Enrichment: Practical experiments in Science and map work in Social Science.

• Portfolio: Assessment of notebooks, assignments, and class participation.
